Press Release 17/05/2021

Let’s get Johnny Magory to number 1!

The Johnny Magory book series based on the old Irish rhyme “will I tell you a story about Johnny McGory” is brought to life by Kildare based Emma-Jane (EJ) Leeson. This June EJ is calling on everyone to get Johnny to number 1 in the Irish book charts by grabbing a copy in their local Aldi store.

EJ is proud to announce that three of the Johnny Magory books are available in Aldi stores nationwide are part of the Grow with Aldi programme. EJ is calling on fans of Johnny, her community and newcomers to the Johnny Magory world to grab a copy of Johnny Magory in the Magical Wild in their local Aldi to help get Johnny to number 1.

EJ says: “By buying the book you’re supporting a small Irish business, an Irish author and in turn helping to get Johnny to number 1 in the Irish book charts, which would be such a dream come true for me. Having my books listed in all Aldi stores across Ireland is a huge achievement – another exciting milestone of the Johnny Magory adventure.”

Aldi says: “Our Grow with Aldi Programme will see Emma-Jane Leeson’s Johnny Magory books in all 145 of our stores this June! The company produces 100% Guaranteed Irish books which are written, edited, illustrated and printed in Ireland. These books are based on the Irish folk character Johnny Magory which most of us know and love.”

The following books will be on sale from Sunday 6th of June as part of the Grow with Aldi Special buy launch: Johnny Magory in the Magical Wild, Johnny Magory and the Forest Fleadh Cheoil, Johnny Magory Joins the Irish Legends, all priced at €8.99.

The books available in Aldi:

  • Johnny Magory in the Magical Wild is the first book published in the series about the little boy who’s a few years old; usually good but sometimes bold! This book was inspired by Ballynafagh Lake which is beside where EJ lives.
  • Johnny Magory and the Forest Fleadh Cheoil is illustrated by EJ’s childhood hero, Don Conroy. The story was inspired by Donadea Forest in Ireland which is a large deciduous, native forest. Irish music heritage and tree climbing are at the fore for this book.
  • Johnny Magory Joins the Irish Legends – Johnny visits heritage sites in each province with his sister Lily-May and their trusty dog Ruairi, driving about in Tizzy the Volkswagen campervan and enjoying the ultimate Irish staycation.
